Having been a red velvet fan for years and also eating that flavor from Wells Bakery previously, we weren't falling for that. He did try to give our money back in a very rude manner and was agitated (and for what, I don't know, because you shouldn't be trying to pass off OLD items as new with a measly $3 discount when the mistake was yours to begin with). We did not take our money back, we told him we just wanted them to be aware.
Wells made the cupcakes for my fall wedding last year, my husband and I were really happy with what we ordered. We asked for something to go along with our fall theme, so they made pumpkin and spice cake cupcakes for us. They were great, everybody loved them. The flavor was really good and they were really moist. We picked them up from the bakery the day before the wedding and they were even able to finish them early on almost no notice when my schedule for the day unexpectedly changed. I would absolutely recommend this bakery for special events, great to stop in for treat too.
That evening when we served the cake, it was horrible. The cake was incredibly dry and quite frankly, disgusting. It was embarrassing to serve this cake, which we had previously raved about. We had no idea that the cake was old when we were given it in exchange, but as soon as we took a bite it was blindingly obvious that we were given a doozie.
They are just awesome!
I will start by saying we had enjoyed Well Family Baking Co. since they opened and had visited numerous times. We have ordered several birthday cakes from them and have always recommended them to anyone who was looking for a bakery. As of last week, we will no longer be referring anyone there, nor will we spend anymore of our money. We were seriously disappointed in not only the product, but with the attitude that came with it.
Because of this incident and the rudeness in which we were dealt with, we will never return. People that treat their customers in that manner do not deserve their money.
We took the remaining cake back to the bakery the next day to let them know what had happened and that we were unhappy with the product. The male was extremely rude and tried to tell us that it was a "dense cake", as if that was an excuse for the extreme dryness.
I am a local resident of Gettysburg and have recently seen a major improvement in the quality of service and food. We had a Caesar's Salad and grilled cheese sandwich that would rival some of the gourmet restaurants in New York city or Washington, DC.
Bottom line: We will never return nor recommend Wells Family Baking Co. to anyone.
I travel an hr one way to buy their Bailey's Cheese cake! (FYI you have to pre order it) Yummy!
The cake we were given was a Red Velvet, which we had in the past, so we anticipated a delicious cake. We were given a $3 discount.
We had ordered a Bavarian chocolate cake for a surprise birthday dinner for a dear friend and when my family went to pick the cake up, it was not there. It turns out that the gentleman who took the order wrote down the wrong date and had it marked that we would pick up the cake an entire week later. Ok, mistakes happen, we understand. Since we were literally picking up the cake and then going to the dinner (no time to go anywhere else), we asked if there were any other cakes available in the same size.
Everything, from the sauces and salad dressings to the croutons are made from scratch.
