This place was cool! There's not a ton to do but a history buff would love to be here! The drive through museum was definitely my favorite part. No expensive tour bus needed. Just your car and some gas! I highly recommend checking this out!
The scenery is gorgeous and I just love being at such a historical place. It’s a little hard to follow the tour but if you keep driving, you see it all, just maybe not in the exact order. This is definitely a must see for history lovers. The town is also really cute and interesting.
Probably anything I could say has been said already, but here goes. It's quite simply the best military park in America, and I've been to all of them. It has the blessings of a large staff and lots of paid and and volunteer contributors (the only really Union battlefield of significance--Harper's Ferry was part of Virginia for most of the war, and Antietam is in the former border state of Maryland--same with those in Kentucky and Missouri). It is also very close to the overcrowded 95 corridor so easy to get to for millions of folks. Still, it is fabulously run and worth at least two full days. The battlefield app or CD is well worth purchasing. Be sure to walk part of the battlefield at least once or twice, with or without a ranger. Do not miss the Confederate statues! They are the most beautiful and, to me, moving thing in the park. Best to follow along day by day (July 2-4) to make sense of this huge and wonderful place.
Full day experience. There is so much to see here. Lots and lots of monuments. Overlook places. History museum. Car and bus tours. Did not expect to spend a full day but spent the day at the park and rushed the end of the day. Worth the visit for sure!
What can I say that can convince you to visit? Extremely well maintained and I like that the park is making tremendous strides to bring the battlefields back to the '63 look. I also like and admire that the park took a strong stance on Confederate markers and monuments. If you want to visit, plan on at least two days. Many skip the town or think its just gift shops. A lot of history there and and the best way to see the progression of the battle from day 1 to 2.
